Measurement of Piling and Embedded Retaining Walls

Bills of quantities for building and civil engineering works are normally prepared in conformity with a standard method of measurement approved for use with the relevant form of contract. Some of the provisions of these standard methods are not, however, considered to be well suited to the efficient and practical measurement of piling.

Model Bills of Quantitiespdf which are shown elsewhere on this website set out principles which are commended to future revision committees of standard methods of measurement and to those responsible for measuring piling works.

The document explains the intention of the suggested items included in the outline bills of quantities. There will need to be variations or additions to these items to meet particular circumstances, structures
or sites.
