Careers in construction

Construction is an exciting industry with more career possibilities than probably any other. Underpinning the construction sector is the geotechnical and deep foundations sector, which offers perhaps one of the most rewarding and challenging careers.

Regardless of where you are or where you aim to be on the educational ladder  - a graduate engineer, considering a post graduate MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, have or are considering a HND/HNC in civil engineering – then the Geotechnical Engineering sector needs you.

Here is a short video to whet your appetite and give you a first-hand view of the options, possibilities and opportunities from some young people working already within the sector.

If this inspires you to find out more, why not talk to us, or if you are already qualified, send your CV to us.

Masters Course in Geotechnical Engineering Support

With no first degree Masters course in Geotechnical Engineering offered by any of our Universities, the FPS is pleased that the 2014 Spending Review announced that:

‘…all students studying a taught masters course would be eligible in 2016 to borrow £10,000 to cover the cost of their tuition fees, irrespective of the duration of study, or whether they are studying full-time or part-time.’

The extension of the student loans scheme to include masters degrees will mean that an undergraduate can study Civil Engineering, at a Bachelor (BEng) level and then continue on to study a MSc. in Geotechnical Engineering without a break in funding.  This is good news for the Geotechnical sector as it means the industry can recruit properly qualified engineers with the specific skills that it needs.

The FPS and its’ Members support this extended funding and is keen to engage with those Universities offering a Geotechnical Engineering MSc., creating employment opportunities for the graduates that come through this route.  Institutions currently offering the Geotechnical Engineering MSc (and relevant contact email addresses) are:

    GRADUATE OPPORTUNITIES

If you are already a graduate of Civil Engineering or have an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, then our Members would like to hear from you. Whilst there may not be any immediate job opportunities, we would still appreciate you sending us a copy of your CV. It will be kept on file, as well as being circulated to FPS Members, who will contact you directly should something suitable be available now or in the future.
